The Half Marathon

Race for 10km event

Race Details

The Half Marathon starts at 7:30 on Kootenay #3 Rd., just South of Madias Creek Forest Service Rd. Participants will be bussed to the start from Rotary Ball Park in Invermere. Busses depart the park for the start at 6:30. The last bus ride opportunity leaves at 7:00, therefore leaves little time to warm up once you arrive at the start, so consider your needs and plan accordingly. Participants are welcome to find their own way to the start. There is ample, but unorganized, parking along Madias Creek Road, however return rides to your vehicles will not be provided.

From the start, the course runs North along the Kootenay #3 road and swings West on Windermere Loop road approximately 8 Km. from the start. Loop Road crosses Highway #95 (this crossing will be controlled by licensed flag persons) and the route descends to the base of Coldstream Hill by following Windermere Rd. (From the 1/2 M start the bottom of the hill is an estimated 584 ft. lower) At Windermere Community Hall the Half Marathon marries with the long established 10 Km. route. The 10 Km event starts at 8:00, so fast 1/2 Marathon runners can expect to overtake walkers and joggers that have chosen the 10 Km event.

Every Kilometer of the entire course will be marked in descending number order. Water, replacement drink and food supplements will be offered at strategic locations. At least 10 aid stations will be in place. For exact details on stations and bathroom facilities, consult you race instructions.

The Rotary Club has made changes to the course (in 2009) with the expectation that it will enhance the enjoyment of a 21.1 km. walk or run, by providing a new and more friendly course to participants, as well as accommodating those that want to beat the potential heat of August by starting early. However, we are a mountain community so terrain is seldom flat.
